Nueva Hoja is a private, non-profit elementary school in Puerto Jimenez on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica.
We are in our third year of operations and are still the only private school on our peninsula.

Our mission is to create learning opportunities for the children of Puerto Jimenez. We hope to change the future for our community by producing bilingual kids with open minds, ready to change the world or, at the least, be eligible for a variety of jobs. We want them to have more opportunities.

We offer affordable tuition. The majority of families in our area earn approximately $500/month and, maybe $800 if both parents are working.
This year our tuition is $2,800 per student. We have encouraged local hotels and individuals involved in tourism in our community to sponsor students as employee incentives or to support our community. Currently, 45% of our students are sponsored.

Our area is very poor and our zone which was mostly agricultural is now growing into a tourism based economy.


We are looking for native English speaking, CERTIFIED teachers to fill the following positions:
Kindergarten
1st Grade
2nd Grade
3rd Grade
5th Grade
6th Grade

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE: Teacher certification and/or a BA/BS in Education and previous time spent in Costa Rica.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE: Knowledge of Spanish, experience in the classroom, work station experience

Nueva Hoja has a beautiful facility. It’s new and spacious. Teachers that have fit well with our school, staff and community are take-charge people that are also very flexible and adaptable. You need to a strong independent worker and also a committed team player. One of the struggles we repeatedly see is that it’s difficult for American teachers to adapt to a foreign community like ours here on the Osa.
